Summary

Anne Frank's extraordinary diary, written in the Amsterdam attic where she and her family hid from the Nazis for two years, has become a world classic and a timeless testament to the human spirit。 Now, in a new edition enriched by many passages originally withheld by her father, we meet an Anne more real, more human, and more vital than ever。 Here she is first and foremost a teenage girl—stubbornly honest, touchingly vulnerable, in love with life。 She imparts her deeply secret world of soul-searching and hungering for affection, rebellious clashes with her mother, romance and newly discovered sexuality, and wry, candid observations of her companions。 Facing hunger, fear of discovery and death, and the petty frustrations of such confined quarters, Anne writes with adult wisdom and views beyond her years。 Her story is that of every teenager, lived out in conditions few teenagers have ever known。

I read this in English Lit and my teacher told me not to read the parts with lesbian undertones。

the real Italian reader

Humorous at times and serious at others, it reflects upon existential ideas we all have but are too scared to admit to。 It is raw throughout, up until its abrupt and dreary ending。

Jessica Killingbeck

A heartbreaking story with a terrible end。

As great as I remembered

This was something I wanted to read, following on from reading about the Anne Frank museum in Amsterdam。 Impossible to imagine how hard life must have been, living in such confinement with the constant fear of discovery, it explores her relationships with people she knew before moving in to the annexe, her family and the people who shared the hiding place with her

DNF’d this one sadly。

This book just shows how hard her life was and what she had to do to survive

Great story, horrid editingThis edition included a great deal more information。 It seems like something a talented 13 year old could write but the spelling and grammar was ridiculous。 All in all it was worth it to get her real diary。

Un classico。Che ognuno dovtebbe leggere, comprendere, interiorizzare。

Beautiful book。 Please go through the history bits as well, in case you're not informed about all of them。 Anne is so relatable a transformation。 Beautiful book。 Please go through the history bits as well, in case you're not informed about all of them。 Anne is so relatable a transformation。 。。。more

Sorry Anna, I would have rated 6 stars your REAL, UNTOUCHED, UNEDITED diary。The book in the actual form, could have been a fantastic, sweet, hart taking chronicle of Hebrew persecution, titled: "In memory of my beloved young girl, Anna Frank", and not sold as the original, genuine diary of this girl。 But hey! it has sold much, much better in this form! 。。。。for the wellness of who survived。。。。。 and in memory of whom we have lost。I fill like crying。 Sorry Anna, I would have rated 6 stars your REAL, UNTOUCHED, UNEDITED diary。The book in the actual form, could have been a fantastic, sweet, hart taking chronicle of Hebrew persecution, titled: "In memory of my beloved young girl, Anna Frank", and not sold as the original, genuine diary of this girl。 But hey! it has sold much, much better in this form! 。。。。for the wellness of who survived。。。。。 and in memory of whom we have lost。I fill like crying。 。。。more

The Diary of a Young Girl is one of the books I've always wanted to read。 I just wanted to see the story of a Jewish girl – and in her perspective, while she was there。 Once I got my hands on it, I was practically shaking with excitement。 But while I was reading it, one thought echoed in my head again and again: It isn't fair, it isn't just, it isn't right。 I've always wanted stories to be true, and I've never put much thought into how much characters suffered throughout the course of the book; The Diary of a Young Girl is one of the books I've always wanted to read。 I just wanted to see the story of a Jewish girl – and in her perspective, while she was there。 Once I got my hands on it, I was practically shaking with excitement。 But while I was reading it, one thought echoed in my head again and again: It isn't fair, it isn't just, it isn't right。 I've always wanted stories to be true, and I've never put much thought into how much characters suffered throughout the course of the book; but while I was reading Anne Frank's diary, I wanted so badly for this diary to be fake, especially because of one sentence in particular: "I have now reached the stage that I don't care much whether I live or die。" How can a teenage girl reach the point that she doesn't care whether she lives or dies? She was put into so much suffering, and it wasn't fair, it wasn't just, and it wasn't right。 And even with her suffering, she managed to learn that "you only really get to know people when you've had a jolly good row with them," that "riches can all be lost, but that happiness in your own heart can only be veiled, and it will still bring you happiness again, as long as you live。 As long as you can look fearlessly look up into the heavens, as long as you know that you are pure within and that you will still find happiness," and that "laziness may appear attractive, but work gives satisfaction。" This may not be the best book written, this may not be the best book with the best beginning or the best ending, but I really think this book is one that should receive much credit。 。。。more

。。。more
